Appropriation happens when cultural expressions are borrowed without acknowledgment, stripping them of the history and struggles that gave them meaning. Appreciation is recognizing where something comes from, honoring those who shaped it, and engaging with it meaningfully—not just consuming it. Wearing a kimono, I didn’t just observe—I engaged, learned, and respected.
